Group demands slash in public officials’ allowances

The Coalition against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) has called for reduction in the allowances of elected public officials as a result of the economic recession.
The group said it was unfair that with the economic hardship, some elected officials were still enjoying “bogus allowances and salaries” to the detriment
of the larger society.

The Executive Chairman of CACOL, Mr. Debo Adeniran, said in a statement yesterday that those allowances were being enjoyed by not just only National Assembly
members but also by other elected public officials with minimal differences.
“The unfairness and insensitivity to the majority that are wallowing in economic pangs in the country is clearly reflecting in the unwillingness of those
in political offices to abandon greed, selfishness and self-deny as required by the state of the economy,” he said.
