A human rights group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, has said the National Judicial Council must explain to Nigerians what it knows about the alleged attempt by a former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, to induce the embattled Justice John Okoro.
Justice Okoro, who was one of the seven judges recently arrested by the Department of State Services, had alleged that Amaechi approached him to manipulate the outcome of the appeal filed in respect of elections in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia states.
In an open letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, SERAP asked the NJC to confirm whether it received any report dated February 1, 2016 from Justice Okoro, alleging that Amaechi visited him at his official residence to discuss appeals in respect of elections in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia states.
