Shema’s appeal forces adjournment of N10bn fraud case

A Katsina High Court on Tuesday adjourned sitting till June 6 in the hearing of the an alleged N10bn corruption suit brought before it by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against a former governor, Ibrahim Shema, and three others.

Justice Maikaita Bako gave the adjournment to give room for the determination of an Appeal Court’s decision on ‘a motion of stay of proceedings’ brought before it by Shema.

Justice Bako declared, “I hereby adjourn this case till June 6, 2017 when the parties should report the outcome of the Appeal Court in respect of the ‘stay of proceeding’ motion pending before the court. All motions pertaining to this case before this court are also to be entertained after the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the motion.”
