The National Emergency Management Agency on Tuesday announced that it had resorted to door-to-door distribution of emergency relief items to internally displaced persons in the North-East in order to reduce or eliminate cases of diversion of the items.
According to the agency, 30,000 metric tonnes of emergency intervention materials, including foodstuffs, were being distributed to the affected persons, beginning with those at the Bakassi IDPs Camp in Maiduguri, Borno State.
NEMA’s Director General, Mustapha Maihaja, said the agency was determined to bring sanity to humanitarian intervention in the geopolitical zone so as to serve the affected persons in dignity without subjecting them to avoidable stress of having to stand in long queues for hours.
