A Professor of Sociology at the University of Lagos, Lai Olurode, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to seriously consider the adoption of electronic voting system in order to reduce impunity during elections.
Olurode specifically urged the electoral body to adopt e-voting for by-elections and governorship elections that would be held before the 2019 general election.
The don, who was a former National Commissioner and Chairman, Board of Electoral Institute, INEC, stated that election technology had proved to be a valuable asset in curbing acts of impunity and making elections free and fair.
This was contained in his inaugural lecture, entitled, “The slaughter’s slab as a metaphor,” which he delivered at the University of Lagos, Akoka.
