The Federal Government will on Thursday (today) arraign 23 officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission accused of receiving N360m bribe from the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in connection with the December 10, 2016 rerun in the state.
The defendants are to be arraigned before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt. This followed a ruling by Justice John Tsoho of the Abuja division of the Federal High Court delivered on March 15, 2012 granting the request of the defendants to have their trial transferred to the Port Harcourt division.
Upholding the notice of preliminary objection filed by the electoral officers challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the case in Abuja, Tsoho held that the charges ought to be filed in Port Harcourt where the offences were allegedly committed.
