FG alleges plot by fraudsters to discredit Sagay panel

The Federal Government has raised the alarm over an orchestrated plot to discredit the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption and by extension, the government’s anti-corruption efforts, using fraudsters and their ilk.

The committee is headed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Itse Sagay.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, alleged in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, that PACAC’s letterhead and stamp as well as the signature of its chairman were being forged and used to con people within and outside the country.

In a particular instance, he alleged that a letter, purportedly signed by the PACAC chairman, entitled, ‘Presidential Investigation on Outstanding Federal Government External Contract Debts,’ and a form to be filled for that purpose, were being sent to unsuspecting persons with the intent of extorting money from them and to portray the country’s highest advisory committee against corruption in bad light.
