The Minister for Environment, Ibrahim Jibril, has said the Federal Government is working in partnership with international agencies and foreign countries to tackle flooding in the country.
The minister made this known at the opening session of the 5th General Assembly of the African Network of Man and Biosphere Reserves at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan on Tuesday.
The five-day event has representatives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation; Germany and Belgium governments, experts on environmental issues from international agencies and many African countries.
The minister said many did not appreciate the effort of the government in tackling environmental problems in the country, especially the recent flooding in Benue, Lagos, Oyo, Sokoto and other states in Nigeria, stressing that the FG had engaged international partners to open up major rivers and blocked waterways in the country.
