The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on Thursday said the police were determined to burst the international syndicate behind the illegal importation of weapons into the country from Turkey.
He said the police would work with the Nigeria Customs Service to put an end to proliferation of arms in the country.
The Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), had last week named a syndicate made up of Nigerians based in Turkey as those behind the illegal importation of about 2,671 pump-action rifles that were impounded in Lagos.
Idris said this at the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari Housing Estate, at the Agemuwo area of Badagry, Lagos State.
