The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL) has lauded the temporary forfeiture of a parcel of land in Lagos linked to a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke.
This was contained in a press release issued by CACOL on Thursday.
According to the CACOL boss, Mr. Debo Adeniran, : “With the way and manner cases of corruptive enrichment and acquisition are unfolding against the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Madueke, one would easily have the impression that the ex-Minister simply had no time for the job she was appointed to do, but rather preferred to loot our commonwealth and satisfy her inordinate appetite for public fund. She has become not only the icon and face of Corruption in Nigeria, but has negatively reflected the saying, ‘What a man could do, a woman could actually do better’. This shows that just as the Corruption malaise has no tribe or religion, it equally has no gender and must simply be condemned by all.”
The CACOL boss adds further: “Media reports indicate that the anti-graft agency stumbled upon the property’s documents while executing a search warrant on the office of one Mr. Amangbo, an ally of the ex-Minister. The zeal so far exhibited by officers and men of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) under the current leadership is commendable and worthy of emulation. It also underpins the fact that Corruption does not operate alone but has cousins and nephews that must provide it with cover to enable it thrive. This is where the role of the ‘Whistleblower’ is vital in the efforts to recoup almost all of our looted wealth in order to give the nation a new lease of life. The 14 days moratorium given to any affected or interested party to the property to come forward is normal in law. It is however clear that most likely, nobody would come forward to lay claim to what we could see as clear proceeds of corruption since possession of a property worth over N325m is simply beyond the legitimate earnings of most Nigerians.”
