FG calls second witness against Saraki Jan. 17

January 12, 2017

The Code of Conduct Tribunal on Wednesday adjourned till January 17 to enable the Federal Government to call its second prosecution witness against the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Saraki is being prosecuted by the Federal Government before the CCT on 16 counts, including false and anticipatory asset declaration, which he allegedly made as the governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011.

The first prosecution witness, Mr. Michael Wetkas, a senior investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, concluded his testimony after a re-examination by the defence counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN),  on Wednesday.

After the re-examination, Jacobs urged the court to adjourn the trial till next week to enable him to call his next witness.

He said his witnesses were in Lagos, so he needed time to bring them to Abuja.

The prosecuting counsel also urged the Danladi Umar-led tribunal to allow the trial to proceed from day-to-day.

However, Umar declined to grant a day-to-day trial.
