The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, on Wednesday, sent the representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, away from its hearing on a petition on “malicious” compulsory retirement of Lt. Col. Abdulfatai Mohammed by the military.
Mohammed’s case is part of a petition involving 21 other officers – two Major Generals, five Brigadier Generals, eight Colonels and seven Lieutenant Colonels, who were retired in June 2016, allegedly without any justification by the Nigeria Army.
After Mohammed’s presentation, the panel asked Buratai’s representatives, led by Maj. Daniel Ehicheoya of the Directorate of Legal Services, Nigerian Army, if the Chief of Army Staff was around to defend the sackings and he told them that he was not present.
