Members of the Human Rights Defenders and Advocacy Centre have marched to the office of the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to protest against alleged unlawful arrests of residents by the operatives of the state’s task force.
They also claimed that arrested residents were tried in mobile courts without regards to their rights, alleging that some lawyers at the courts influenced ‘the fearful suspects’ to plead guilty.
The protesters lamented that the task force and the courts had been allegedly turned to revenue-generating avenues, whereby innocent persons were made to pay fines running into thousands of naira.
